Depeche Mode Cryptograms
- ..what ARE Cryptograms? A Cryptogram is a set of sentences written in a simple substitution code, where one letter of the alphabet is subsituted for the correct letter. No letter stands for itself. The code is different for each cryptogram. For example:
MARTIN LEE GORE
ZKDGMA TBB XIDB
There are many clues you can look for when breaking the code on a cryptogram. Single letters usually stand for "I" or "a". Common two-letter words are "of", "in", "is", "it", "at", "or", and "to." Three-letter words include: "the", "and", "are", and "for." Also look for common suffixes like "-ing", "-ed", "-tion", and "-able." Some of the most frequently used letters are: e, t, a, o, i, n, s, h, r , and d.
I have created these cryptograms using Depeche Mode lyrics. I will try to add a new cryptogram every two weeks or so. The answers to each cryptogram can be found at the bottom of this webpage, along with the title of the song the lyric comes from.
